How to Build Self Esteem in Kids

It goes without saying that bringing up kids is a difficult job; you have to adopt a comprehensive approach so that your kid can grow up to be a well balanced human being with a well groomed personality. If your child has a low self esteem then you should take some steps to have a high self esteem, if your child thinks that he is of no worth then chances that he may never achieve his/her goals in life. There are a plenty of ways that you can help your child have a high self esteem, some of them are given below.Self Esteem in Kids

One of the best ways how to build self esteem in kids is to appreciate their talents; this will make them realize that what they do is valuable. The author of famous Life-Span development, John Santrock is of the view that parents should value whatever talents their kids possess as it will help them further improve on their talents, which will help them a great deal in future. If on the other hand if their talents are not valued, they will lose heart and may never try to improve. If you as parents value academic excellence higher than sports and your kid happens to be good in sports and lags behind when it comes to studies then you should encourage instead of criticizing him or her, because if you criticize your kids for being good at sports it will result in your kid developing low self esteem and he will never recover from it to be good at both sports and studies. However, if you appreciate the sports talents of your kid, it will encourage him/her to better in other fields as well.

A Penny Saved Today . . . Against Bullying

It goes without saying that no matter how bigger problem we are facing in this world, if we play our individual roles in our individual capacities we can solve it easily. This is exactly what was highlighted by the students of an elementary school in Chicago. The small kids of the Chicago’s LaSalle II Magnet elementary school situated in the neighborhood of Buck town are collecting pennies so that they can make a big amount of it, to be spent on a motivational speaker who will give a motivational speech on bullying to the school students so that students may be aware of the consequences of bullying on their mind as well as on the victim’s mind.school anti-bullying campaign

The campaign is called “Penny War” in which all classes are in a competition to collect pennies, so that they can sponsor school’s anti-bullying campaign. According to the Student Council Coordinator, last year students collected a sum of 1200 US dollars, which is awesome. The sum was spent on a motivational speech on how to prevent bullying in the school and considering the fact that it is always good to nip the evil in the bud, this exercise can really help students to prepare themselves against bullies. This exercise is also important in the sense that the motivational speech can have a positive impact on the minds of potential bullies so if they realize the seriousness of bullying and the consequences it can bring, it will deter them to be involved in such a behavior when they grow up.

Signs of Depression In Your Little Angel

Generally speaking, depression is thought of as a mental condition that is associated with the adults and grown-ups only and the fact that even the young children can develop depression seems far -fetched to a majority of people. But this thinking is not without a reason as there’s been little or no medical research in this area and it would not be wrong to say that depression in small children, falling in the age bracket of 3-6 years is a fairly new field or area of study.Signs of Depression In Your Little Angel

It is due to lack of research and awareness people find it hard to accept a child suffering from depression and the fact that the signs and symptoms of a child suffering from depression are completely different as compared to the signs and symptoms that appear in adults when suffering from depression, makes it all the more difficult to imagine a child developing depression. Given the fact that children have nothing to do with the responsibilities that an adult has to shoulder, therefore they are thought to literally have nothing to worry about and hence the misconception that young children can’t suffer from depression. But the reality is completely opposite to what we generally think.
